Your Instagram is showing up in Google search right now. And you have never once looked at what it ranks for.
That is not a guess. Your posts, your reels, and your profile have been getting indexed for a while. You just never had a clean way to see the data. Well, Google just changed that. Google Search Console now lets you add your social profiles: Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. If you are not living in this tool yet, pull up a chair. This is the two-minute setup, and then the reason I run my entire content strategy out of it.
What Google just rolled out
Search Console has always been the free tool that shows you exactly what people typed into Google before they landed on your website: the queries, the clicks, and the position you ranked in. It is Google handing you its own data, straight from the source.
Now that same visibility is extending to your social and video content. You connect a profile as its own property, and Search Console starts showing you how that content performs in search. It is rolling out gradually, so not every account has it yet. But the direction is the whole point: Google is treating your social content as searchable, trackable, rankable content. The wall between “SEO” and “social” is coming down, and the people who see it first get the head start.
How to add your social profiles to Google Search Console
The whole setup takes about two minutes:
- Log into Google Search Console.
- Hit Add Property (the blue plus mark).
- Choose your platform (Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube).
- Log in to that platform.
- Agree and continue.
- Wait 48 hours for your data to populate.
That is it. It is free, and in two days you will see your social content the way Google sees it. Connect every platform you are active on, and connect your website too, so you get the full picture in one place.

Why I live in this tool
Every other app guesses. Your Instagram insights, your reach graphs, your “best time to post” widgets: those are estimates built on your own account’s history. Search Console is different. It is Google telling you what real people and real bots are searching for, and where you already show up for it.
Here is what I do with it. I open the queries report and I look for the phrases where my content sits at position 5 through 10. Big impressions, barely any clicks. That is a post sitting one push away from the top of page one. It is already relevant, already indexed, already so close. It just needs a nudge.
So I do not brainstorm content ideas out of thin air. I pull what people already search for, find what I am almost ranking for, and go make the thing that takes the top spot. That is the entire difference between guessing and knowing. One burns you out. The other compounds.
And now it does this for your social content too
Once your profiles are connected, Search Console shows you:
- Which of your posts and videos show up in Google.
- The exact words people typed to find them.
- What is pulling traffic while you sleep.
And it matters differently on every platform. Your Instagram reels and captions become searchable long after the feed drops them. TikTok is a search engine in its own right, and now you can see how it feeds Google too. X posts surface for timely, trending queries. And YouTube is the second largest search engine on the planet, so the words in your titles and descriptions do real work for months.
Your reels are search results now. So write your captions the way your buyer searches, and the same video works twice: once in the feed, and once in Google for months after. The feed forgets you in 48 hours. Search does not.
How to use this data (the part that makes you money)
Seeing the data is step one. Using it is where the growth lives. Here is the simple loop I run, and the one I run for clients:
- Match your captions to real queries. Take the exact phrases people already use to find you and write your hooks and captions around them. Lead with the question, not the vibe. This is the exact system behind my trial reels content playbook.
- Rescue your almost-ranking content. Find the posts stuck at position 5 through 10 and give them the push: a stronger caption, a follow-up post, a fresh angle on the same topic.
- Double down on what already pulls traffic. If a topic is quietly bringing you visitors, make three more pieces on it. Own the whole subject the way a real organic social media strategy is built.
- Repurpose your winners. A post that ranks on Instagram can become a YouTube short, an X thread, and a blog section. One idea, found through data, worked five ways.
What most people get wrong
Most creators treat social as disposable. Post it, watch it die in a day, post again, repeat until you are exhausted. That is a treadmill, not a strategy. Search flips it. When your content is built to be found, it keeps working long after you hit publish. The goal is not to feed the feed. The goal is to build a library of content that gets discovered on purpose, over and over, by the exact people you want to reach.
Frequently asked questions
Is Google Search Console free?
Yes. It is completely free, and it always has been. You just need a Google account.
Which social platforms can I add?
Right now you can connect Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube as their own properties.
Do I need a website to use Search Console?
No. You can add a social profile as its own property, even if you do not have a website. If you do have one, connect that too, so you see the full picture.
How long until my social data shows up?
About 48 hours after you connect a profile. Give it two days, then come back and look at what you rank for.
Is this the same as my Instagram or TikTok insights?
No. Your in-app insights show how a post did inside that app. Search Console shows how your content performs in Google search, which is a completely different and much longer-lasting source of traffic.
I do not see the option to add a social profile. Why?
It is rolling out in waves, so not every account has it yet. Check back in a few days. In the meantime, make sure your website property is verified and clean.

Search and social just merged, and Google handed you the scoreboard. The people who win from here are the ones who stop guessing and start building content that gets found on purpose. Two minutes today, then 48 hours, and you will never look at your content the same way again.
If you would rather have someone read the scoreboard and build the whole engine for you, that is exactly what I do. Take a look at how I run marketing as your Fractional CMO, and book a call when you are ready to get found on purpose.
